ISLAMIC THEOLOGY

Islamic theology is also known as (i) Ilm al-Usul (the science of basic principles of Islam) and (ii) Ilm At-Tawhid (the science of affirming the Unity of Allah -SWT).

Some people also call it Ilm al-Kalam (the Science of Debate). The meaning of Arabic word ‘Kalam’ is ‘speech’, but in Islamic theology, it means 'discussion', 'argument' or 'debate' on  Islamic Faith.

We define Islamic theology as follows.

‘To know the facts of things, as they are, in the light of Quran and Sunnah, is Islamic theology’. In other words, Islamic theology is ‘Islamic Wisdom’.

ISLAMIC JURISPRUDENCE

Famous historian Ibn Khaldun describes fiqh as ‘knowledge of the rules of Allah (SWT) that concern the actions of persons who are bound to obey the law, respecting what is required (Wajib), forbidden (Haraam), recommended (Mandoob), disapproved (Makruh) or permitted (Mubah).

Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) covers two main areas, (i) Rules in relation to actions (Amaliyya) and (ii) Rules in relation to circumstances surrounding the actions (Wadia’).

Right understanding about the above subjects is very important to remain Muslim in this World and get salvation on the Day of Judgment.

Some Muslim sects misquote the Imams of Fiqh and draw wrong conclusions from their rulings.  Like for instance  Imam Ahmad's observations on Quranic verses that depict Allah's (SWT) attributes are misquoted by Salafis.  They quote Imam Ahmad to draw literal/textual meanings of these verses, to mean that Allah (SWT) has (nauzubillahi) hands, face, eyes and limitations.

What Imam Ahmad said was 'not to ponder much on these verses and related Ahadith and let them be as they are and let us belief in the purport of Allah (SWT) and His Apostle (SAWS)'.  He did not say  that (nauzubillahi) Allah (SWT) has hands, etc.  Also his observations did not mean that people take literal/ textual meanings of  these  verses and allege  hands, eyes and face and limitations for Allah (SWT).

It is in Quran - "He is who has sent down to you (O'Prophet -SAWS) the Book (Quran).  Some verses of it are definite in meaning (Ayaat-e-Muhkamaat).  These form the mother of the Book (the basic there in) and the rest are figurative (metaphorical) (Ayaat - e - Mutashaabihaat).  But  they in whose minds there is a tendency to deviate from truth, take the metaphorical (verses in their literal / textual sense) craving discord, and craving to give them their own interpretation, although none knows the reality about them except Allah (SWT).  And those who make it right approach to knowledge could only say  'we believe therein all that is from our Lord'.  None can catch their significance except those gifted with insight." (Aal-e-Imran - 7).

Following the Imaams of Fiqh

Click to know more

Certain Muslim Sects stop people from the following of Imams of fiqh and say that people should read Quran and Hadith on their own and deduce what is right and wrong for them independently. While they preach this theory, they themselves follow Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Abdul Wahhab blindly.

Salafis accuse Imam Hussain (RU) as a wrong doer and say "Raziallahu ta'la unhu" with Yazid's name. They should decide who stands a good chance to go to Jannah; Imam Hussain (RU) or Yazid?

It is important to note that once you start following Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn Abdul Wahhab, you have joined Salafism at the expense of mainstream Islam for all practical purposes. As a Salafi /Ahle Hadith and the like minded you form distinct groups in Muslims. On the Day of Judgment you will be standing in front of Allah (SWT) along with Yazid, Ibn Abdul Wahhab and the like minded and your judgment will be done along with them.

We have tried to find out, the chances of salvation of these groups on that fateful Day. Read important information in this context.

A Historical Perspective of Fiqh

Click to know more

It is a very interesting account of the phases of development of Islamic law and eventual schools of thoughts in Fiqh. Later on a consensus was gradually developed by itself that after Imam Hanbal (RA), the nation did not produce Muslim Jurists of the caliber of the 4 accepted Imams. Therefore, whatever research is done in the area of Islamic Jurisprudence, it is done within the borderlines of the 4 Imaams points of view.

Why it is so? Because Muslims realized that the Sharia cannot be stretched further than what has been described by the 4 Imams. If we interpret more in the basic rules of Islam beyond what has been described by the 4 Imams, it is most likely that we will lose the right path of Islam.

The misunderstanding about Biddah

Click to know more

It is fashionable with the followers of certain Muslim sects to brand simple issues as Biddah when they cannot understand or appreciate their significance. Look at our current physical performance of Hajj. It is totally different from the time of Prophet Mohammad (SAWS). Look at the mosques we pray now a days. They are totally different from the mosques of Prophet's time. Life is an evolution in itself. It changes all the time and we adopt to the new requirements within the stipulated guidelines of Sharia.

During the time of Prophet Mohammad (SAWS) and his companions, Muslims looked upon, and acted on, religious issues in a composed format. As the time passed, the composed format of religion gradually developed into its detailed version.

We have discussed the issue of Biddah in detail and have proved that this issue has been completely misunderstood by certain Muslim sects. Read this interesting information which will provide answers to many of your questions in this context.

The Science of Debate(Ilm al Kalam)

Click to know more

Ilm al Kalam primarily deals with justifying religious beliefs to reason and employing reason to draw new conclusions and consequences from these beliefs.

Some Muslims sects, particularly Salafis, reject Kalam as deviation and innovation. They also exaggerate the impact of non-Islamic influences and philosophy on the evolution of the 'schools of kalam'. As a matter of fact, many of kalam's early themes, such as the status of the sinner or the question of political legitimacy, arose within a purely Islamic context.

The Salafis and their like minded groups should understand that the religion cannot progress if we limit the understanding of fundamental beliefs, saying we cannot discuss issues related to faith.

This contention is good when a person has developed strong faith in Islamic principles. But what about those who need counseling on Islamic issues. What about the new converts? What about Da'wa? We need to explain that Islam is the only truthful religion on Earth.

Muslims have been involved in polemics right from the start, from the Prophet's (SAWS) time. If we had not taken the assistance of Kalam (debate), Islam would not have spread in the world.

Read this information which clears many of wrong contentions of misguided people.

How supernatural things are carried by some people

Click to know more

People around the Globe are entangled in various issues related to Philosophy and Theosophy which are contrary to the realities of our Cosmos.

Many philosophical theories are presented in such a way that these look logical religious beliefs. Christian missionaries convince people by oratory. They have mastered the art of emotional exploitation of people. They make people believe in miracles that are made to happen by the Christian Preachers.

Scholars of certain Muslim Sects like Salafis and Ahle Hadith show mastery in inter-religious issues and show exceptional vocabulary. But their believes about Allah (SWT) are contradictory to Islamic teachings as they claim Allah (SWT) has hands and other body parts. They preach their sects beliefs in the name of Daawa. All their efforts go in vain as their basic believe about Allah (SWT) and His Apostle are not correct which may result in their rejection by Allah (SWT) on the Day of Judgment.

Some people use super natural powers as proof of truthfulness of their faith. Often they use incantation (chanting) and spells to achieve their objectives. They also use will power to subdue common people.

How can a true Muslim deal with these issues? Rejecting these issues as false does not work. We need to go to the crux of the matter and explain the facts to the people so that they realize the truth and come to the straight path of Islam.
