EXPLAINED IN DETAIL

Fussilat| Sura # 41| 54 Verses | Makkan

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 024

فَإِنْ يَصْبِرُوا فَالنَّارُ مَثْوًى لَهُمْ وَإِنْ يَسْتَعْتِبُوا فَمَا هُمْ مِنَ الْمُعْتَبِينَ [ Then, whether they have patience or not, the fire will still be their home, and even if they beg for pardon, it shall not be granted to them. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 025

وَقَيَّضْنَا لَهُمْ قُرَنَاءَ فَزَيَّنُوا لَهُمْ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَحَقَّ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقَوْلُ فِي أُمَمٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا خَاسِرِينَ [ We placed at their disposal (evil) associates who made their past and future (misdeeds) appealing to them. (So) the fate of earlier communities of jinn and humans has been justified against them, (for) they were truly losers. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 026

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَا تَسْمَعُوا لِهَذَا الْقُرْآَنِ وَالْغَوْا فِيهِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَغْلِبُونَ [ Those who disbelieve say (to each other) : 'Don’t listen to this Quran and make noise in it (during recitation) so that you may gain the upper hand.' ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 027

فَلَنُذِيقَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَسْوَأَ الَّذِي كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ [ So We will certainly make the disbelievers taste a severe punishment, and We will surely repay them according to the worst of their deeds. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 028

ذَلِكَ جَزَاءُ أَعْدَاءِ اللَّهِ النَّارُ لَهُمْ فِيهَا دَارُ الْخُلْدِ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا بِآَيَاتِنَا يَجْحَدُونَ [ Such is the retribution of the enemies of Allah : the fire will be their eternal home, a retribution for their denial Our revelations. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 029

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا رَبَّنَا أَرِنَا الَّذَيْنِ أَضَلَّانَا مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ نَجْعَلْهُمَا تَحْتَ أَقْدَامِنَا لِيَكُونَا مِنَ الْأَسْفَلِينَ  [ The unbelievers will say, 'Our Lord, show us those jinn and men who misled us; we will trample them under our feet so that they become the lowest of the low (in Hell).' ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 030

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا رَبُّنَا اللَّهُ ثُمَّ اسْتَقَامُوا تَتَنَزَّلُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ أَلَّا تَخَافُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَبْشِرُوا بِالْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي كُنْتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ  [ Surely those who say, 'Our Lord is Allah,' and then remain steadfast, the angels descend upon them, (saying), 'Do not fear, nor grieve. Rather, rejoice in the good news of Paradise, which you have been promised. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 031

نَحْنُ أَوْلِيَاؤُكُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الْآَخِرَةِ وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَا تَشْتَهِي أَنْفُسُكُمْ وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَا تَدَّعُونَ [ We are your guardian in the life of this world and in the Hereafter. You will find in it what you desire and you will find in it what you ask for;]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 032

نُزُلًا مِنْ غَفُورٍ رَحِيمٍ [ a gift of welcome from Him, Who is All Forgiving, Most Merciful.']

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 033

وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا مِمَّنْ دَعَا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا وَقَالَ إِنَّنِي مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ [ Who is better in speech than the one who calls people towards Allah, does good deeds and says : 'I am a Muslim?']

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 034

وَلَا تَسْتَوِي الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّيِّئَةُ ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُ وَلِيٌّ حَمِيمٌ [ (O' believers), Good and evil cannot be equal.  Repel evil with what is good (talk to your enemies nicely even if they provoke and ill treat you) and your enemy will become as close as an old and valued friend.]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 035

وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا ذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ [ But none will attain this quality except those who patiently endure and none will attain this quality except those who are truly fortunate.]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 036

وَإِمَّا يَنْزَغَنَّكَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ نَزْغٌ فَاسْتَعِذْ بِاللَّهِ إِنَّهُ هُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ [ (O' Believers) If an evil whisper from Satan comes to you, seek refuge in Allah. Surely, He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 037

وَمِنْ آَيَاتِهِ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ وَالشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ لَا تَسْجُدُوا لِلشَّمْسِ وَلَا لِلْقَمَرِ وَاسْجُدُوا لِلَّهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَهُنَّ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ إِيَّاهُ تَعْبُدُونَ [ Among His signs are the night, the day, the sun and the moon. Do not bow down in worship to the sun, nor to the moon, but bow down to Allah, Who created them, it is Him that you worship. ]

The above is the 'Verse of Sajda' (آیت سجدہ).  If someone is reading it alone,  should do prostration (سجدة) alone.  If it is read loudly in an audience, the reciter and all the listeners should do 'Prostration of Recitation' (Sajda-e-Tilaawah -  سجدة التلاوة) individually.

The Prostration can be done in sitting or standing position.  In the Hanafi school of thought, 'Prostration of Recitation' (Sajda-e-Tilaawah -  سجدة التلاوة) is obligatory (Fardh).  With Shafii and Maliki, it is Sunnah.
It is in Hadith -  'When you have recited a verse requiring Sajdah-e-Tilaawaah, you should go down for Sajdah with Allahu-Akbar and rise from Sajdah with Allahu-Akbar, which may be performed sitting, though it is preferable to prostrate oneself from the standing position. (Abu Dawood)
Have the intention to do Prostration of recitation (سجدة التلاوة). The place where you are reading/reciting Quran should be clean. Face towards Qibla, say (quietly) Allahu Akbar, go into prostration once, recite the 'Tasbih of Sajdah' 'Subhana Rabbi al-A'alaa' (سبحان ربّي الاعلى ) at least 3 times and raise from the Sajda saying Allahu Akbar.

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 038

فَإِنِ اسْتَكْبَرُوا فَالَّذِينَ عِنْدَ رَبِّكَ يُسَبِّحُونَ لَهُ بِاللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ وَهُمْ لَا يَسْأَمُونَ [ The unbelievers may turn away (from the truth) arrogantly, but those (angels) close to your Lord glorify Him (and recite His praises) day and night. They do not get tired. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 039

وَمِنْ آَيَاتِهِ أَنَّكَ تَرَى الْأَرْضَ خَاشِعَةً فَإِذَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْهَا الْمَاءَ اهْتَزَّتْ وَرَبَتْ إِنَّ الَّذِي أَحْيَاهَا لَمُحْيِي الْمَوْتَى إِنَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ [ And among His signs is that you see the earth devoid of life, but as soon as We send down rain upon it, it begins to come back (to life) and swell.  Indeed, the One Who revives it, can easily revive the dead. He is certainly Most Capable of everything. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 040

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُلْحِدُونَ فِي آَيَاتِنَا لَا يَخْفَوْنَ عَلَيْنَا أَفَمَنْ يُلْقَى فِي النَّارِ خَيْرٌ أَمْ مَنْ يَأْتِي آَمِنًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ اعْمَلُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ إِنَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرٌ [ Those who twist and distort Our verses are, of course, not unknown to Us.  So, who will fare better on the Day of Judgment? The one flung in the Hellfire or the one who arrives safe and secure (into paradise)?  Do what you want.  Of course, He watches whatever you do. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 041

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِالذِّكْرِ لَمَّا جَاءَهُمْ وَإِنَّهُ لَكِتَابٌ عَزِيزٌ [ Those who reject this reminder (the Quran) when it comes to them,  should know that in fact it is a mighty Book. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 042

لَا يَأْتِيهِ الْبَاطِلُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَلَا مِنْ خَلْفِهِ تَنْزِيلٌ مِنْ حَكِيمٍ حَمِيدٍ [ Falsehood can neither confront it (the Quran) head on, nor approach it (stealthily) from behind. (It is) a revelation from the Wise, the One Worthy of praise. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 043

مَا يُقَالُ لَكَ إِلَّا مَا قَدْ قِيلَ لِلرُّسُلِ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَذُو مَغْفِرَةٍ وَذُو عِقَابٍ أَلِيمٍ [ (O Prophet  ﷺ), Nothing is said to you (by the deniers) except what was already said to the Apostles before you. Surely your Lord is  (the Lord) of forgiveness and painful punishment. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 044

وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَاهُ قُرْآَنًا أَعْجَمِيًّا لَقَالُوا لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ آَيَاتُهُ أَأَعْجَمِيٌّ وَعَرَبِيٌّ قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا هُدًى وَشِفَاءٌ وَالَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ فِي آَذَانِهِمْ وَقْرٌ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَمًى أُولَئِكَ يُنَادَوْنَ مِنْ مَكَانٍ بَعِيدٍ [ Had We revealed it as a non-Arabic Quran, they would have certainly argued, 'If only its verses were made clear (in our language). What! A non-Arabic revelation for an Arab audience!' Say, (O Prophet  ﷺ), 'It is a guide and a healing to the believers. As for those who disbelieve, there is deafness in their ears and blindness to it (in their hearts). It is as if they are being called from a faraway place.' ]

Indeed, Quranic verses are not only a healing for the heart in fortifying Islamic faith, but also helpful in  'answering of the objectives / wishes and prevention of disease and warding off, of evil touch.  Many books have been written by Islamic scholars in this regard.  The books like 'Shamsul Ma'arif by  Booni  and Muraqqa Kalimi of Kalimullah Jahanabadi, etc., are important in this context.  In the invocations (ازکار) mentioned in these books, the supreme and the most effective invocations are invocation from the verses of Quran.

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 045

وَلَقَدْ آَتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ فَاخْتُلِفَ فِيهِ وَلَوْلَا كَلِمَةٌ سَبَقَتْ مِنْ رَبِّكَ لَقُضِيَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَفِي شَكٍّ مِنْهُ مُرِيبٍ [ Before this Quran, We had given the Book to Musa (عليه السلام) and it was similarly disputed. If your Lord had not already given a word, the Judgment would have been passed between the disputants; grave though their suspicions were about it. ]

Juz 24, Fussilat, Verse 046

مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلِنَفْسِهِ وَمَنْ أَسَاءَ فَعَلَيْهَا وَمَا رَبُّكَ بِظَلَّامٍ لِلْعَبِيدِ [ Whoever does good does so for himself, and whoever does wrong bears the guilt thereof. Your Lord does no wrong to His servants. ]
