At-Talaaq| Sura # 65| 12 Verses | Madinan

In the name of Allah, the most Compassionate and Most  Merciful

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 001

(Instruct the believers), When you (intend to) divorce women, then divorce them in consideration of their waiting period, and count it accurately. And fear Allah, your Lord.  Do not force them out of their homes, nor should they leave, unless they commit a blatant misconduct.    These are the limits set by Allah. And whoever transgresses Allah’s limits has truly wronged his own self.  You never know, perhaps Allah will bring about a change (of heart) later.]

Islam provides an amicable way out of Marriage in case of difficulties arising out of various issues.  Both men and women are free to seek divorce.

The issue of Talaq has been discussed in detail in the Tafseer of verses 224-242 of Surah al-Baqara.

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 002

فَإِذَا بَلَغْنَ أَجَلَهُنَّ فَأَمْسِكُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ أَوْ فَارِقُوهُنَّ بِمَعْرُوفٍ وَأَشْهِدُوا ذَوَيْ عَدْلٍ مِنْكُمْ وَأَقِيمُوا الشَّهَادَةَ لِلَّهِ ذَلِكُمْ يُوعَظُ بِهِ مَنْ كَانَ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآَخِرِ وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا  [ Then, when they have fulfilled their appointed term (waiting period ends), either take them back in a good manner or part with them in a good manner. Take for witness two honest persons among you (Muslims), and establish the witness for Allah. This advice is given to all who believe in Allah and the Last Day. And whoever fears Allah, He makes a way out for him (from difficulty), ]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 003

وَيَرْزُقْهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَحْتَسِبُ وَمَنْ يَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ فَهُوَ حَسْبُهُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَالِغُ أَمْرِهِ قَدْ جَعَلَ اللَّهُ لِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدْرًا  [ and provides for them from the sources they could never imagine. And whoever puts their trust in Allah, then He  is sufficient for them. Surely, Allah brings about what He pleases. Allah has already set a destiny for everything. ]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 004

وَاللَّائِي يَئِسْنَ مِنَ الْمَحِيضِ مِنْ نِسَائِكُمْ إِنِ ارْتَبْتُمْ فَعِدَّتُهُنَّ ثَلَاثَةُ أَشْهُرٍ وَاللَّائِي لَمْ يَحِضْنَ وَأُولَاتُ الْأَحْمَالِ أَجَلُهُنَّ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يَجْعَلْ لَهُ مِنْ أَمْرِهِ يُسْرًا  [ If you have any doubt concerning those of your wives who have ceased menstruating, then you should know that their waiting period will be three months, and the same will apply to those who have no menstruation.  As for those who are pregnant, their waiting period will end with delivery.  Allah will ease the hardship of those who fear Him.]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 005

ذَلِكَ أَمْرُ اللَّهِ أَنْزَلَهُ إِلَيْكُمْ وَمَنْ يَتَّقِ اللَّهَ يُكَفِّرْ عَنْهُ سَيِّئَاتِهِ وَيُعْظِمْ لَهُ أَجْرًا  [ This is the Command of Allah which He has sent down to you. Those who fear Allah, He will remit their sins from them and will enlarge rewards for them. ]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 006

أَسْكِنُوهُنَّ مِنْ حَيْثُ سَكَنْتُمْ مِنْ وُجْدِكُمْ وَلَا تُضَارُّوهُنَّ لِتُضَيِّقُوا عَلَيْهِنَّ وَإِنْ كُنَّ أُولَاتِ حَمْلٍ فَأَنْفِقُوا عَلَيْهِنَّ حَتَّى يَضَعْنَ حَمْلَهُنَّ فَإِنْ أَرْضَعْنَ لَكُمْ فَآَتُوهُنَّ أُجُورَهُنَّ وَأْتَمِرُوا بَيْنَكُمْ بِمَعْرُوفٍ وَإِنْ تَعَاسَرْتُمْ فَسَتُرْضِعُ لَهُ أُخْرَى  [ Allow the wives you are divorcing to reside where you reside, according to your means. Do not harass them in order to make things difficult for them. If they are pregnant, maintain them until they give birth. And if they nurse your infant, compensate them fairly. Maintain your relationship in a friendly and honorable way. But if you disagree, then let another woman nurse him.]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 007

لِيُنْفِقْ ذُو سَعَةٍ مِنْ سَعَتِهِ وَمَنْ قُدِرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقُهُ فَلْيُنْفِقْ مِمَّا آَتَاهُ اللَّهُ لَا يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا مَا آَتَاهَا سَيَجْعَلُ اللَّهُ بَعْدَ عُسْرٍ يُسْرًا  [ Let the rich man give according to his means, and the poor man give according to what Allah has given him. Allah does not charge a man with more than He has given him; soon Allah may bring ease after hardship.]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 008

وَكَأَيِّنْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ عَتَتْ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهَا وَرُسُلِهِ فَحَاسَبْنَاهَا حِسَابًا شَدِيدًا وَعَذَّبْنَاهَا عَذَابًا نُكْرًا  [ Many a town defied the command of the Lord and His Apostles (earlier), so We held them strictly accountable, and We punished them with a horrifying punishment. ]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 009

فَذَاقَتْ وَبَالَ أَمْرِهَا وَكَانَ عَاقِبَةُ أَمْرِهَا خُسْرًا  [ So they tasted the evil result of their misdeeds and the consequence of their wrongdoings was loss (destruction in this life and punishment in the Hereafter). ]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 010

أَعَدَّ اللَّهُ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا شَدِيدًا فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ يَا أُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا قَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ إِلَيْكُمْ ذِكْرًا   [ Allah has prepared for them a severe punishment. Therefore, fear Allah! O men of understanding and faith. Allah has indeed sent down to you an admonition; ]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 011

رَسُولًا يَتْلُو عَلَيْكُمْ آَيَاتِ اللَّهِ مُبَيِّنَاتٍ لِيُخْرِجَ الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ وَمَنْ يُؤْمِنْ بِاللَّهِ وَيَعْمَلْ صَالِحًا يُدْخِلْهُ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا قَدْ أَحْسَنَ اللَّهُ لَهُ رِزْقًا [ (and sent) an Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) reciting to you Allah’s revelations, making things clear so that He may bring those who believe, and do good deeds, out of darkness into light. And whoever believes in Allah and does good will be admitted by Him into Gardens under which rivers flow, to stay there for ever eternally. Indeed Allah has granted an excellent provision for them. ]

Juz 28, At-Talaaq, Verse 012

اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَوَاتٍ وَمِنَ الْأَرْضِ مِثْلَهُنَّ يَتَنَزَّلُ الْأَمْرُ بَيْنَهُنَّ لِتَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا   [ It is Allah Who has created 7 heavens and of the earth like them. His Command descends between them (heavens and earth), so that you may know that Allah has power over all things and that Allah indeed surrounds all things within His knowledge. ]

THE PROHIBITION

At-Tahrim| Sura # 66| 12 Verses | Madinan

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

In this Surah Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) has cautioned and warned about certain issues related to Ummaha-tul-Momineen (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہم اجمعين).  There may have been some domestic issues of concern related to Prophet's (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) household which have been referred to in this Surah. Thus, it is not important for us to go into details because Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) Himself has not disclosed about these issues.

It is important to note that Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) teach us by various means that cover every aspect of our lives, private and public, both.

Everything in Quran and Sunnah is meant for the teaching of people. Some people wrongly claim and try to relate human weaknesses in the lives of the Prophets and their close associates.  This is not correct understanding.  They should know that all these things are meant to teach the people  and have no relevance with the weaknesses of the virtuous people of the proximity with Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostles. Particularly, these are meant for Muslims to understand these issues correctly and implement these teachings in their lives for their benefit in this life and in Hereafter.

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 001

Why do you leave (eating of a) certain thing in consideration of the wish of (some of) your wives while  Allah has made it lawful to you.  Allah is All Forgiving, and Most Merciful.]

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 002

قَدْ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ تَحِلَّةَ أَيْمَانِكُمْ وَاللَّهُ مَوْلَاكُمْ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ [ Allah has already given you absolution from such oaths. Allah is your Lord and He is Knowledgeable and  Wise.]

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 003

وَإِذْ أَسَرَّ النَّبِيُّ إِلَى بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِهِ حَدِيثًا فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَتْ بِهِ وَأَظْهَرَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ عَرَّفَ بَعْضَهُ وَأَعْرَضَ عَنْ بَعْضٍ فَلَمَّا نَبَّأَهَا بِهِ قَالَتْ مَنْ أَنْبَأَكَ هَذَا قَالَ نَبَّأَنِيَ الْعَلِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ [ And (remember) when the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) confided a matter  to one of his wives, she disclosed it (to another wife). And Allah made it known to him; he informed part of it (to one of his wife) and left a part. Then when he told her (the other wife) of it, she said : 'Who told you this?' He said : 'The All Knowing, All Aware (Allah) has told me.']

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 004

إِنْ تَتُوبَا إِلَى اللَّهِ فَقَدْ صَغَتْ قُلُوبُكُمَا وَإِنْ تَظَاهَرَا عَلَيْهِ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ مَوْلَاهُ وَجِبْرِيلُ وَصَالِحُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ ظَهِيرٌ [ If you both (wives) turn in repentance to Allah (it will be better) as your hearts have indeed so inclined (to oppose what the prophet ﷺ likes); but if you help one another against him (the Prophet ﷺ), then surely (know that) Allah is his Protector, Jibreel (عليه السلام), and the righteous believers, and furthermore, the angels too are his helpers.]

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 005

عَسَى رَبُّهُ إِنْ طَلَّقَكُنَّ أَنْ يُبْدِلَهُ أَزْوَاجًا خَيْرًا مِنْكُنَّ مُسْلِمَاتٍ مُؤْمِنَاتٍ قَانِتَاتٍ تَائِبَاتٍ عَابِدَاتٍ سَائِحَاتٍ ثَيِّبَاتٍ وَأَبْكَارًا [ Perhaps, if he were to divorce you (all), his Lord would replace you with better wives who are submissive (to Allah), (and) faithful (to Him), devout, repentant, dedicated to worship and fasting, previously married or virgins.]

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 006

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا قُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلَائِكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَا يَعْصُونَ اللَّهَ مَا أَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُونَ مَا يُؤْمَرُونَ [ O' you who believe, save yourselves and your families from the Fire whose fuel is men and rocks, over which are appointed angels stern and severe as wardens who never disobey what Allah commands them, and do what they are commanded;]

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 007

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَا تَعْتَذِرُوا الْيَوْمَ إِنَّمَا تُجْزَوْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ [ (And say) 'O you unbelievers, make no excuses today. You will be requited only for what you had done."]

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 008

Turn to Allah in sincere repentance. It may well be that your Lord will remove from you your sins and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow. On that Day Allah will not disappoint the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and the believers with him. Their light will shine in front of them and on their right, and they will say : 'Our Lord! Perfect our light for us and grant us forgiveness, for You have power over all things.']

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 009

يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ جَاهِدِ الْكُفَّارَ وَالْمُنَافِقِينَ وَاغْلُظْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَمَأْوَاهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ [ O' Noble Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم), strive against the unbelievers and the hypocrites and be stern with them. Hell will be their dwelling. What a miserable destination.]

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 010

ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا اِمْرَأَةَ نُوحٍ وَامْرَأَةَ لُوطٍ كَانَتَا تَحْتَ عَبْدَيْنِ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا صَالِحَيْنِ فَخَانَتَاهُمَا فَلَمْ يُغْنِيَا عَنْهُمَا مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا وَقِيلَ ادْخُلَا النَّارَ مَعَ الدَّاخِلِينَ [ Allah has set an example to the unbelievers in the wife of Nooh (عليه السلام) and the wife of Loot (عليه السلام). They were married to two of Our righteous servants (Prophets), but they betrayed them. In no way could their husbands protect them from Allah.  Both of them were told,  'Enter the fire, along with those who enter.']

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 011

وَضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا لِلَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا اِمْرَأَةَ فِرْعَوْنَ إِذْ قَالَتْ رَبِّ ابْنِ لِي عِنْدَكَ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ وَنَجِّنِي مِنْ فِرْعَوْنَ وَعَمَلِهِ وَنَجِّنِي مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ [ And Allah has set forth an example for those who believe, the wife of Pharaoh, who said : 'My Lord! Build for me a home from You in Paradise and save me from Pharaoh and his work, and save me from the wrongdoer people.' ]

Juz 28, At-Tahrim, Verse 012

وَمَرْيَمَ ابْنَتَ عِمْرَانَ الَّتِي أَحْصَنَتْ فَرْجَهَا فَنَفَخْنَا فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِنَا وَصَدَّقَتْ بِكَلِمَاتِ رَبِّهَا وَكُتُبِهِ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ الْقَانِتِينَ [ And the example of Maryam bint Imran (عليها السلام), who guarded her chastity.  So We breathed into her from Our Spirit; and she believed in her Lord's Words and His Books, and was one of the devoutly obedient (servants). ]
