(As for) those who responded (at Ohud) to the call of Allah and the Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) after the wounds had befallen them, those among them who do good (to others) and guard (against evil) shall have a great reward.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 173

Those to whom the people said, 'the people have gathered against you, therefore fear them', but their faith was further increased; and they said, 'Allah is sufficient for us, and indeed what an excellent protector is He.!']

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 174

So they returned with the favor and grace of Allah, in that no harm reached them; they followed what pleased Allah; and Allah is extremely benevolent.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 175

إِنَّمَا ذَلِكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ يُخَوِّفُ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ فَلَا تَخَافُوهُمْ وَخَافُونِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ  [ It is no one but Satan who frightens you with his devil allies. But do not fear him, fear Me, if indeed you are believers. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 176

وَلَا يَحْزُنْكَ الَّذِينَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْكُفْرِ إِنَّهُمْ لَنْ يَضُرُّوا اللَّهَ شَيْئًا يُرِيدُ اللَّهُ أَلَّا يَجْعَلَ لَهُمْ حَظًّا فِي الْآَخِرَةِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ [ And (O' Prophet ﷺ)  do not grieve for those who rush towards disbelief; they do no harm Allah.   Allah will not give them any share in Hereafter, and their torment will be severe. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 177

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ اشْتَرَوُا الْكُفْرَ بِالْإِيمَانِ لَنْ يَضُرُّوا اللَّهَ شَيْئًا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ [ Those who opted for unbelief in place of belief, they will not harm Allah in the least, and the torment for them will be painful. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 178

وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لِأَنْفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِي لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوا إِثْمًا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُهِينٌ  [ And never should the disbelievers be under the illusion that the respite We give them is any good for them; We give them respite only for them to further advance in their sins; and for them is a disgraceful torment. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 179

مَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيَذَرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ عَلَى مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى يَمِيزَ الْخَبِيثَ مِنَ الطَّيِّبِ وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُطْلِعَكُمْ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ وَلَكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَجْتَبِي مِنْ رُسُلِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ فَآَمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَإِنْ تُؤْمِنُوا وَتَتَّقُوا فَلَكُمْ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ   [ Allah will not leave you, O' believers  in your present state, (it is only) until He separates the evil from the good. It does not befit Allah’s Majesty to give the common men, knowledge of the hidden, but Allah does chose from His Apostles whoever He wills.  So believe in Allah and His Apostles; and if you believe and be pious, there is a great reward for you. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 180

وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَبْخَلُونَ بِمَا آَتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا لَهُمْ بَلْ هُوَ شَرٌّ لَهُمْ سَيُطَوَّقُونَ مَا بَخِلُوا بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلِلَّهِ مِيرَاثُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرٌ   [ And never should those who act miserly upon what Allah has bestowed them from His grace, think that it is good for them; in fact it is harmful for them; soon what they had withheld will become  collars of fire round their necks on the Day of Judgement.  To Allah belong (all that is in) the heavens and the earth; and Allah is Well Aware of what you do. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 181

[Allah has certainly heard the statement of those (Jews) who said, 'indeed, Allah is poor, while we are rich.' We will record what they say and their killing of the prophets without right and will tell them, 'taste the punishment of the burning Hell Fire. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 182

[This is the recompense of what your hands have sent ahead. Allah does not oppress His servants.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 183

الَّذِينَ قَالُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَهِدَ إِلَيْنَا أَلَّا نُؤْمِنَ لِرَسُولٍ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَنَا بِقُرْبَانٍ تَأْكُلُهُ النَّارُ قُلْ قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رُسُلٌ مِنْ قَبْلِي بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ وَبِالَّذِي قُلْتُمْ فَلِمَ قَتَلْتُمُوهُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ  [ These people also say that 'Allah has ordained from us not to accept any Apostle unless he brings us a sacrifice which a fire (from heaven) shall consume.   Say (O Prophet  ﷺ)  many Apostles came to you before me, with clear signs and with this command which you state, then why did you kill them, if you are truthful?]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 184

فَإِنْ كَذَّبُوكَ فَقَدْ كُذِّبَ رُسُلٌ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ جَاءُو بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ وَالزُّبُرِ وَالْكِتَابِ الْمُنِيرِ  [ So (O' Prophet  ﷺ)  if they are denying you; the Apostles who came before you with clear signs, scriptures and clear book were also denied.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 185

You (O believers) will get your recompense in full on the Day of Resurrection; and he who is spared the Fire and finds his way to Paradise will meet his desire. And what is the life of this world except enjoyment of delusion.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 186

لَتُبْلَوُنَّ فِي أَمْوَالِكُمْ وَأَنْفُسِكُمْ وَلَتَسْمَعُنَّ مِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَمِنَ الَّذِينَ أَشْرَكُوا أَذًى كَثِيرًا وَإِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ الْأُمُورِ [ You will be tried with your wealth and life, and will hear many untoward things from the followers of former Books and infidels. But if you endure with patience and follow the straight path,  that is of the matters worthy of determination.]

What is trial ?

If a person has trust and confidence in Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ), he is provided from the resources that are not known to him.  Similarly, the one who has absolute trust in Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ), all his requirements are fulfilled by the Almighty.  Whatever his heart wishes, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) accomplishes it.

When Allah (سبحانه و تعا لی) observes that the servant's thoughts are upright and his trust in Him is strong and he is obedient in taking care of his responsibilities and is firm on performance of imperatives (فرائض), then his 'trial' begins.  The whole world becomes enemy and Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) subjects him to difficulties, diseases and emergencies and tells him by inspiration that 'you should obey Me, rather than I obey you'.  This state is very unpalatable. Patience is the requirement of this time.

It is in Quran - إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ  [Certainly, Allah is with the people who have patience] (Al-Baqara - 153).

To keep the heart and thoughts balanced during this period is the work of 'the courageous people'.  When the servant bears difficulties and feels no burden on his heart in accepting the commandments of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and acts upon them willingly, without any resistance, without any ill feeling, it is known 'nurturing acceptance' (Tasleem - تسلیم).

When the servant gets used to enduring troubles and it becomes easier for him to act upon the commandments of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) rather he starts enjoying his tolerance on afflictions, like the drug user gets addicted to taking the sour drug and starts enjoying and relishing its sore taste.  This state is known as 'Acquiescence' (Ridha -  رِضا).
It is in Quran - وَرِضْوَانٌ مِّنَ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ  [Allah's approval is indeed a very big thing]. (At-Tauba - 72).
After it everything is made easy for the servant and he becomes one of the favorites of Allah.  This type of person is then used by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) to guide others in his home, relatives and society.

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 187

وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلَا تَكْتُمُونَهُ فَنَبَذُوهُ وَرَاءَ ظُهُورِهِمْ وَاشْتَرَوْا بِهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا فَبِئْسَ مَا يَشْتَرُونَ  [ And remember when Allah took a covenant from the people of the Book to make its (truth) known to people, and not keep back any part of it.  They set aside (the covenant), and sold it away for a little gain.   How wretched is the bargain  they made. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 188

لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَا أَتَوْا وَيُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يُحْمَدُوا بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّهُمْ بِمَفَازَةٍ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ  [ Do never think of those who rejoice for their (evil) deeds and wish to be praised without (any good deed),  are safe from the chastisement.  For them is a painful torment. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 189

For Allah is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth, and Allah has power over all the things.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 190

إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لَآَيَاتٍ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ [ In the creation of the heavens and the earth, the alternation of night and day, are signs for the wise.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 191

الَّذِينَ يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ قِيَامًا وَقُعُودًا وَعَلَى جُنُوبِهِمْ وَيَتَفَكَّرُونَ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ [ Those who remember Allah standing and sitting and lying on their sides and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth (and say) Our Lord! You have not created this in vain! Glory be to You; save us  from the torment of the Fire.]

To remember, and not to forget  is known as invocation (Zikr - ذکر). The remembrance could be oral or in heart; standing, walking, sitting or lying.  The objective of invocation is, mindfulness of Allah.

It is observed that diifferent invocation have different effects.  Most important invocation is the invocation of 'Islamic Testimony' (Kalima Tayyiba - كلمه طيِّبه) ' [La  Ilaha Illallahu  - لا اله الاّ الله] which has a significant effect in the prevention of evil considerations (Wasaawis - وساوس).

[To you He has prescribed the faith which He had prescribed to Nooh (عليه السلام), and which We have revealed to you and which We had given to Ibrahim (عليه السلام), Musa (عليه السلام) and Isa (عليه السلام) enjoining. Adhere to this faith and do not divide yourself into sects.] (Ash-Shura - 13).

The purport of the above is Islamic law (Shariah - شريعه).  Divine commandments together are known as Shariat-e-Islami (شريعت اسلامي).

It is in Quran - اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ  [O' our Lord, guide us to the straight path] (Fateha - 6)

The meaning of Sirat (صراط) is 'Tareeq' (طریق), the way, path.  Therefore,  Tareeqat (طریقت) is to walk on the divine path.

It is in Quran - أَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ الْمُبِينُ  [ Certainly, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) is the Absolute truth who discloses the exact truth] (An-Noor - 25).

Thus  cognizance of truth (Haqeeqat - حقیقت) is to understand the Unity and Attributes of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ).  And this understanding is Gnosis (Ma'arefath - معرفت).

It is in Hadith -   إِنَّ أَصْدَقَ كَلِمَةٍ قَالَهَا الشَّاعِرُ كَلِمَةُ لَبِيدٍ : أَلا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلا اللَّهَ بَاطِلٌ  [ It is the true statement of Labied, the Arab Poet,  in all these things nothing is created as spurious by Allah]  (Bukhari)

To remain in Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) thought day and night is 'engrossment' (Mahwiyet - محویت).

Ignorant people waste their lives as there is neither invocation, nor mindfulness of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ).  Sensible people are always alert. Idle thoughts are catastrophic as life is being wasted in them.  It is not advisable to waste this precious life in useless thoughts and sinful deeds.

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 192

رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَنْ تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنْصَارٍ [ Our Lord, indeed whoever has been admitted to the Fire,  has been disgraced.  For wrongdoers there are no helpers.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 193

We have heard a proclaimer calling towards faith, (saying) ‘Believe in your Lord’ so we have accepted the faith.  Our Lord,  forgive our sins, and erase out our sins, and make us die among the virtuous.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 194

And give us what You have promised us through Your Apostles, and do not humiliate us on the Day of Resurrection; indeed You do not break your promise.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 195

فَاسْتَجَابَ لَهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ أَنِّي لَا أُضِيعُ عَمَلَ عَامِلٍ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنْثَى بَعْضُكُمْ مِنْ بَعْضٍ فَالَّذِينَ هَاجَرُوا وَأُخْرِجُوا مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ وَأُوذُوا فِي سَبِيلِي وَقَاتَلُوا وَقُتِلُوا لَأُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنْهُمْ سَيِّئَاتِهِمْ وَلَأُدْخِلَنَّهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ثَوَابًا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ عِنْدَهُ حُسْنُ الثَّوَابِ [ So their Lord accepted their prayer, for I do not waste the efforts of any (righteous) worker, male or female; you are all one among yourselves; so those who migrated and were driven out from their homes and were harassed in My way,  and fought, and were slain,  I will certainly erase out all their sins and will certainly admit them into Gardens beneath which rivers flow; (it is) a reward from Allah; and only with Allah is the best reward.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 196

(O believers)   Do not ever be deceived by the disbelievers' free movements in the land.]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 197

Their commerce is but short-lived, and then their abode shall be Hell. And what an evil abode (is Hell).]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 198

لَكِنِ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا رَبَّهُمْ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٌ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا نُزُلًا مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ وَمَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرٌ لِلْأَبْرَارِ [ But those who are pious and obedient to their Lord, will have gardens beneath which rivers flow, they will abide therein for ever, enjoying the hospitality of their Lord, and what is with Allah is best for the pious. ]

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 199

وَإِنَّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَمَنْ يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ وَمَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ خَاشِعِينَ لِلَّهِ لَا يَشْتَرُونَ بِآَيَاتِ اللَّهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيلًا أُولَئِكَ لَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ [ Certainly among the people of the Book are some who believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to you and had been revealed to them; and they bow in humility before Allah, and do not trade for paltry gain the signs of Allah. Their reward is verily with their Lord; and swift is the reckoning of Allah! ]

It is in Ahadith that when Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) came to know the death of King As-hamah Najjaashi (the Negus) of Abysinia (Ethiopia), he ordered Sahabah to pray his 'funeral prayer in absentia' in Madina. It is in Hadith Nasai, narrated by Anas (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) that some Sahabah said O'Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) shall we pray for a person of Habash.  On this the above verse was revealed.

Juz 4, Aal-i-Imran, Verse 200

Endure and surpass your enemies in endurance, and guard the frontiers of the Islamic nation; and keep fearing Allah, so that you may be successful.]
