JUZ 5.5 WAL MUHSANAT  (وَالْمُحْصَنَاتُ)


سورة النساء

The Women

An Nisa | Sura # 4| 176 verses | Madinah


بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ 

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate and the Merciful

Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 128
وَإِنِ امْرَأَةٌ خَافَتْ مِنْ بَعْلِهَا نُشُوزًا أَوْ إِعْرَاضًا فَلَا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْهِمَا أَنْ يُصْلِحَا بَيْنَهُمَا صُلْحًا وَالصُّلْحُ خَيْرٌ وَأُحْضِرَتِ الْأَنْفُسُ الشُّحَّ وَإِنْ تُحْسِنُوا وَتَتَّقُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا  [ And if a woman fears ill treatment from her husband or disinterest, so it is no sin for them if they reach an agreement of peace between themselves; and peace is better; and (remember) the heart is trapped in greed; and if you do good and practice piety, then Allah is Well Aware of it. ]
Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 129
وَلَنْ تَسْتَطِيعُوا أَنْ تَعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُمْ فَلَا تَمِيلُوا كُلَّ الْمَيْلِ فَتَذَرُوهَا كَالْمُعَلَّقَةِ وَإِنْ تُصْلِحُوا وَتَتَّقُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا  [ And you will never be able to be equal feelings between wives, even if you strive. So (at least) do not incline completely toward one and leave the other hanging. Yet if you are just and do the right thing,   Allah is ever Forgiving and Merciful.  ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 130
وَإِنْ يَتَفَرَّقَا يُغْنِ اللَّهُ كُلًّا مِنْ سَعَتِهِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ وَاسِعًا حَكِيمًا  [ But if they separate (divorce), Allah will enrich each from His abundance. And Allah is All Encompassing and All Wise.  ]
The issues related to marriage and divorce have been discussed in detail in the last part of Surah al-Baqara.


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 131
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَقَدْ وَصَّيْنَا الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَإِيَّاكُمْ أَنِ اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَإِنْ تَكْفُرُوا فَإِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَنِيًّا حَمِيدًا [ All that is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. We had commanded those who received the Book before you, and have commanded you too, But if you disbelieve, then to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And Allah is self-sufficient and praise-worthy. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 132
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ وَكَفَى بِاللَّهِ وَكِيلًا [ And to Allah belongs all, whatever is in the heavens and all whatever is in the earth, And Allah is sufficient for (for whatever is there in this Cosmos). ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 133
إِنْ يَشَأْ يُذْهِبْكُمْ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ وَيَأْتِ بِآَخَرِينَ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَدِيرًا [ He could take you away if He wills, O' men, and replace you with others. Allah is All powerful to do so. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 134
مَنْ كَانَ يُرِيدُ ثَوَابَ الدُّنْيَا فَعِنْدَ اللَّهِ ثَوَابُ الدُّنْيَا وَالْآَخِرَةِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا [ Whosoever desires a reward of this world (should remember) that with Allah are rewards of this world as well as of the Hereafter and Allah is All Hearing, All Seeing. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 135
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا كُونُوا قَوَّامِينَ بِالْقِسْطِ شُهَدَاءَ لِلَّهِ وَلَوْ عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوِ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْأَقْرَبِينَ إِنْ يَكُنْ غَنِيًّا أَوْ فَقِيرًا فَاللَّهُ أَوْلَى بِهِمَا فَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا الْهَوَى أَنْ تَعْدِلُوا وَإِنْ تَلْوُوا أَوْ تُعْرِضُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ خَبِيرًا  [ O' People who Believe! Be firm in establishing justice, giving witness for Allah, even if it is harmful to yourselves or parents or relatives; whether the one you testify against is wealthy or poor, for in any case Allah has the greater right over it.  Do not follow your desires for you may stray from the truth.  If you distort testimony or turn away, then Allah is Well Aware of your deeds. ]
Honesty and sincerity in whatever we do is important. Allah sees our hearts, not our claims.  If individuals establish the habit of honest testimony in disputes and in the court of law, many evils of society could be controlled.  While giving witnesses, there should be no considerations of relationships or acquisition of wealth or any kind of material benefit.  


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 136
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا آَمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَالْكِتَابِ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ عَلَى رَسُولِهِ وَالْكِتَابِ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمَنْ يَكْفُرْ بِاللَّهِ وَمَلَائِكَتِهِ وَكُتُبِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآَخِرِ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلَالًا بَعِيدًا  [ O you who believe, believe in Allah and His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and the Book that He sent down upon His Apostle (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) and the Scripture which He sent down before. And whoever disbelieves in Allah, His angels, His books, His Apostles, and the Last Day has certainly gone far astray. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 137
إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا ثُمَّ آَمَنُوا ثُمَّ كَفَرُوا ثُمَّ ازْدَادُوا كُفْرًا لَمْ يَكُنِ اللَّهُ لِيَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ وَلَا لِيَهْدِيَهُمْ سَبِيلًا   [ Those who accept the faith, then disbelieve, then return to it, and deny once again and increase in disbelief, will not be forgiven by Allah or be guided by Him. ]

Conscious abandonment of Islam by a Muslim is known as Apostasy (ارتداد). It includes converting into another religion or open renunciation of  Islamic faith or open rejection of any one or all Islamic laws by a person who was born to a Muslim family or who had accepted Islam from some other religion.  There are differences of opinion among scholars about the  punishment of Apostasy. However, there is a provision for a person to repent and come back to Islamic fold after he has become apostate for the first time.  If the person becomes apostate again, then the doors of Islam are closed for him permanently.  The above verse describes it in very clear terms.

Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 138
بَشِّرِ الْمُنَافِقِينَ بِأَنَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا [ Give tidings to the hypocrites that painful is their torment. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 139
الَّذِينَ يَتَّخِذُونَ الْكَافِرِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَيَبْتَغُونَ عِنْدَهُمُ الْعِزَّةَ فَإِنَّ الْعِزَّةَ لِلَّهِ جَمِيعًا [ Those who leave the Muslims to befriend the disbelievers; do they seek honor from them? Undoubtedly all honor is with Allah. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 140
وَقَدْ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ أَنْ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ آَيَاتِ اللَّهِ يُكْفَرُ بِهَا وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ بِهَا فَلَا تَقْعُدُوا مَعَهُمْ حَتَّى يَخُوضُوا فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا مِثْلُهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَامِعُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَالْكَافِرِينَ فِي جَهَنَّمَ جَمِيعًا  [ And indeed Allah has sent down to you in the Book that whenever you hear the signs of Allah being rejected or being made fun of, do not sit with those people, until they engage in some other conversation; or else you too are like them; undoubtedly Allah will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers, all together, into hell. ]
Making fun of Islamic laws is the sign of hypocrisy. Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) commands us to abandon the company of people who make fun of Islamic laws and make jokes about them even though they call themselves Muslims. 

Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 141
الَّذِينَ يَتَرَبَّصُونَ بِكُمْ فَإِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فَتْحٌ مِنَ اللَّهِ قَالُوا أَلَمْ نَكُنْ مَعَكُمْ وَإِنْ كَانَ لِلْكَافِرِينَ نَصِيبٌ قَالُوا أَلَمْ نَسْتَحْوِذْ عَلَيْكُمْ وَنَمْنَعْكُمْ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَاللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَلَنْ يَجْعَلَ اللَّهُ لِلْكَافِرِينَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ سَبِيلًا  [ Those (hypocrites) who wait (and watch) you. Then if you gain a victory from Allah, they say, 'Were we not with you?' But if the disbelievers have a success, they say (to them), 'Did we not gain the advantage for you by protecting you from the believers?' Allah will judge between (all of) you on the Day of Resurrection, and never will Allah give the disbelievers a sway over the believers.


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 142
إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ يُخَادِعُونَ اللَّهَ وَهُوَ خَادِعُهُمْ وَإِذَا قَامُوا إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ قَامُوا كُسَالَى يُرَاءُونَ النَّاسَ وَلَا يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا  [ The hypocrites try to deceive Allah, but He lets them deceive themselves. When they stand up for  prayer they do so indolently, only for show, and remember Allah but little, ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 143
مُذَبْذَبِينَ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ لَا إِلَى هَؤُلَاءِ وَلَا إِلَى هَؤُلَاءِ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلِ اللَّهُ فَلَنْ تَجِدَ لَهُ سَبِيلًا  [ Wavering between the two, neither with the (believers) nor with (disbelievers). For them who are not given the guidance by Allah, you will never find a way. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 144
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا الْكَافِرِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَتُرِيدُونَ أَنْ تَجْعَلُوا لِلَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَانًا مُبِينًا  [ O' believers, do not hold unbelievers as friends in preference to the believers. Do you want to give a clear proof of your own guilt before Allah? ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 145
إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الْأَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ وَلَنْ تَجِدَ لَهُمْ نَصِيرًا  [ The hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of Hell, and you will find no one to help them. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 146
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ تَابُوا وَأَصْلَحُوا وَاعْتَصَمُوا بِاللَّهِ وَأَخْلَصُوا دِينَهُمْ لِلَّهِ فَأُولَئِكَ مَعَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَسَوْفَ يُؤْتِ اللَّهُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا  [ But those who repent and amend, and hold firmly to (the rope of) Allah, and are sincerely obedient to Allah, are surely with the faithfuls; and Allah will bestow on the faithfuls a great reward. ]


Juz 5, An Nisa, Verse 147
مَا يَفْعَلُ اللَّهُ بِعَذَابِكُمْ إِنْ شَكَرْتُمْ وَآَمَنْتُمْ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ شَاكِرًا عَلِيمًا  [ Why should Allah punish you if you are grateful (to Him) and believe (in Him)? And Allah is the Multiplier of rewards and is All-Knowing. ]
