بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate and the Merciful
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 056قُلْ إِنِّي نُهِيتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ الَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ قُلْ لَا أَتَّبِعُ أَهْوَاءَكُمْ قَدْ ضَلَلْتُ إِذًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُهْتَدِينَ [ Say, 'I have been forbidden to worship those whom you worship other than Allah'; say, 'I do not follow your desires; if it were, I would then go astray and not be on the right path.' ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 057قُلْ إِنِّي عَلَى بَيِّنَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّي وَكَذَّبْتُمْ بِهِ مَا عِنْدِي مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِ إِنِ الْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ يَقُصُّ الْحَقَّ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الْفَاصِلِينَ [ Tell them: 'A clear proof has come to me from my Lord, and Him you deny. But what you wish to be hastened is not within my power. The judgement is only Allah´s. He unfolds the Truth, and is the best of judges." ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 058قُلْ لَوْ أَنَّ عِنْدِي مَا تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ بِهِ لَقُضِيَ الْأَمْرُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكُمْ وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِالظَّالِمِينَ [ Say: 'If what you wish to be hastened were in my power, all matters between you and me would have been settled; Allah is aware of those who are unjust.' ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 059وَعِنْدَهُ مَفَاتِحُ الْغَيْبِ لَا يَعْلَمُهَا إِلَّا هُوَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ وَمَا تَسْقُطُ مِنْ وَرَقَةٍ إِلَّا يَعْلَمُهَا وَلَا حَبَّةٍ فِي ظُلُمَاتِ الْأَرْضِ وَلَا رَطْبٍ وَلَا يَابِسٍ إِلَّا فِي كِتَابٍ مُبِينٍ [ He has the keys of the Unseen. No one but He has knowledge. He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls without His knowledge, nor a grain in the darkest layer of the earth, nor any thing green or dry that is not recorded in the Manifest book. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 060وَهُوَ الَّذِي يَتَوَفَّاكُمْ بِاللَّيْلِ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا جَرَحْتُمْ بِالنَّهَارِ ثُمَّ يَبْعَثُكُمْ فِيهِ لِيُقْضَى أَجَلٌ مُسَمًّى ثُمَّ إِلَيْهِ مَرْجِعُكُمْ ثُمَّ يُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ [ It is He indeed who sends you to sleep at night, and knows what you do in the day, then makes you rise with it again in order that the fixed term of life be fulfilled. Then to Him you will be returned when He will tell you what you did. ]The Arabic word Wafaat (وفاة) carries two meanings, (i) to take, and (ii) death. In death, Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) takes us away from this world. In the above verse the meaning of (يَتَوَفَّاكُمْ) is sleep, and not death. Not knowing the correct meaning of this word, some people claim that Prophet Isa (عليه السلام) died in this world. It is in Quran - إِذْ قَالَ اللَّهُ يَا عِيسَى إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَجَاعِلُ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ثُمَّ إِلَيَّ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَأَحْكُمُ بَيْنَكُمْ فِيمَا كُنْتُمْ فِيهِ تَخْتَلِفُونَ [ When Allah said : "O' Isa (عليه السلام), I will take you and raise you towards Me (and you will be kept alive to complete your age on Earth) and will exalt you, and rid you of the infidels, and keep those who follow you above those who disbelieve till the Day of Resurrection. You all then have to return back to Me when I will judge between you concerning the matter in which they dispute. ] (Aal-e-Imran - 55)In the above verse it is (إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ) which means I will take you. Those who do not understand this, translate it 'I will make you die'. This is sheer ignorance on their part and with this they deny the truthful teachings of Islam about Isa (عليه السلام).This can also be understood from the following verse Allah says (تَوَفَّتْهُ رُسُلُنَا) meaning 'angels take him'.Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 061وَهُوَ الْقَاهِرُ فَوْقَ عِبَادِهِ وَيُرْسِلُ عَلَيْكُمْ حَفَظَةً حَتَّى إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدَكُمُ الْمَوْتُ تَوَفَّتْهُ رُسُلُنَا وَهُمْ لَا يُفَرِّطُونَ [ He has power over His creatures, and appoints guardians to watch over them. When death comes to one of you, Our angels take him, and do not falter. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 062ثُمَّ رُدُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ مَوْلَاهُمُ الْحَقِّ أَلَا لَهُ الْحُكْمُ وَهُوَ أَسْرَعُ الْحَاسِبِينَ [ Then they (servants) are returned to Allah, their true Lord. Unquestionably, His is the judgement, and He is swift in taking account. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 063قُلْ مَنْ يُنَجِّيكُمْ مِنْ ظُلُمَاتِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ تَدْعُونَهُ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةً لَئِنْ أَنْجَانَا مِنْ هَذِهِ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ [ Say, 'Who rescues you from the calamities of the land and the sea, Whom you call upon crying loudly and in whispers that, ‘If we are saved from this we will surely be grateful?' ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 064قُلِ اللَّهُ يُنَجِّيكُمْ مِنْهَا وَمِنْ كُلِّ كَرْبٍ ثُمَّ أَنْتُمْ تُشْرِكُونَ [ Say, 'It is Allah who saves you from it and from every distress; then you associate partners with Him.' ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 065قُلْ هُوَ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابًا مِنْ فَوْقِكُمْ أَوْ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِكُمْ أَوْ يَلْبِسَكُمْ شِيَعًا وَيُذِيقَ بَعْضَكُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ انْظُرْ كَيْفَ نُصَرِّفُ الْآَيَاتِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَفْقَهُونَ [ Say, 'He has power over you to send punishment from above you or from beneath your feet, or to cause you to fight each other by dividing you into different groups, and make you taste the harshness of one another'. Look how We explain the verses so that they may understand. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 066وَكَذَّبَ بِهِ قَوْمُكَ وَهُوَ الْحَقُّ قُلْ لَسْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ بِوَكِيلٍ [ And your people (O' Prophet ﷺ) denied it whereas this is undoubtedly the truth. Tell them, 'I am not responsible for you.' ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 067لِكُلِّ نَبَإٍ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ [ A time is fixed for every prophecy; you will come to know in time. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 068وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ الَّذِينَ يَخُوضُونَ فِي آَيَاتِنَا فَأَعْرِضْ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّى يَخُوضُوا فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ وَإِمَّا يُنْسِيَنَّكَ الشَّيْطَانُ فَلَا تَقْعُدْ بَعْدَ الذِّكْرَى مَعَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ [ (O' believers) when you see those who argue in Our verses, turn away from them until they engage in another topic; and if the devil causes you to forget, then do not sit with the unjust after remembering. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 069وَمَا عَلَى الَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ مِنْ حِسَابِهِمْ مِنْ شَيْءٍ وَلَكِنْ ذِكْرَى لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ [ And those who are pious are not held accountable for the disbelievers at all, apart from giving of advice so that they may heed. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 070وَذَرِ الَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا دِينَهُمْ لَعِبًا وَلَهْوًا وَغَرَّتْهُمُ الْحَيَاةُ الدُّنْيَا وَذَكِّرْ بِهِ أَنْ تُبْسَلَ نَفْسٌ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ لَيْسَ لَهَا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ وَلِيٌّ وَلَا شَفِيعٌ وَإِنْ تَعْدِلْ كُلَّ عَدْلٍ لَا يُؤْخَذْ مِنْهَا أُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ أُبْسِلُوا بِمَا كَسَبُوا لَهُمْ شَرَابٌ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ وَعَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْفُرُونَ [ And leave those who take their religion as amusement and diversion and whom the worldly life has deluded. But remind (them) with the Qur'an, lest someone gives up the destruction what he earned. He will have no protector and no intercessor other than Allah. And if he should offer compensation, it would not be accepted from him. Those are the ones who are given to destruction for what they have earned. For them will be a drink of boiling water and a painful punishment because they used to disbelieve. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 071قُلْ أَنَدْعُواْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ مَا لَا يَنْفَعُنَا وَلَا يَضُرُّنَا وَنُرَدُّ عَلَى أَعْقَابِنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَانَا اللَّهُ كَالَّذِي اسْتَهْوَتْهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ فِي الْأَرْضِ حَيْرَانَ لَهُ أَصْحَابٌ يَدْعُونَهُ إِلَى الْهُدَى ائْتِنَا قُلْ إِنَّ هُدَى اللَّهِ هُوَ الْهُدَى وَأُمِرْنَا لِنُسْلِمَ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ [ Say, 'Shall we invoke instead of Allah that which neither benefits us nor harms us, and turn back on our heels after Allah has guided us? Like the one whom the devils enticed upon the earth confused, (while) he has companions inviting him to guidance, (calling), 'Come to us.' Say, 'Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the guidance; and we have been commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 072وَأَنْ أَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَهُوَ الَّذِي إِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ [ Establish prayers and fear (Allah), for it is He before whom you will be gathered (in the end). ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 073وَهُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بِالْحَقِّ وَيَوْمَ يَقُولُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ قَوْلُهُ الْحَقُّ وَلَهُ الْمُلْكُ يَوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ وَهُوَ الْحَكِيمُ الْخَبِيرُ [ And it is He Who created the heavens and the earth with a definite purpose; and when He will say 'Be' on the Day (of resurrection) to all the existing things, it will happen immediately; His Word is true; and it will be His kingship on the day when the Trumpet is blown. He has knowledge of the hidden and the manifest, and He only is the Wise, and Aware.]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 074وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ آَزَرَ أَتَتَّخِذُ أَصْنَامًا آَلِهَةً إِنِّي أَرَاكَ وَقَوْمَكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ [ Remember when Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to his father, Azar, 'why do you take idols as gods. I certainly find you and your people in error.' ]
It is reported that Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) grew up under the guardianship of his uncle Azar (father's brother), because his father, Tareq died when he was very young.
[Nay! were you witness when death visited Yaqoub (عليه السلام), when he said to his sons : What will you serve (worship) after me? They said : We will serve (worship) your God and the God of your fathers; Ibrahim (عليه السلام) and Ismail (عليه السلام) and Ishaq (عليه السلام); one God only, and to Him do we submit.] ( Al-Baqara - 133).
In the above verse, the sons of Yaqoub (عليه السلام) are referring to, both Ishaq (عليه السلام) and Ismail (عليه السلام), as their fathers ( آبَائِكَ ). Ishaq (عليه السلام) is their grand father, and Ismail (عليه السلام) is the brother of Ishaq (عليه السلام). Thus, it is proved that the word ( أبي ) is used in Quran for both biological father, and brother of father.
It is in Quran - وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ لِأَبِيهِ آزَرَ أَتَتَّخِذُ أَصْنَامًا آلِهَةً ۖ إِنِّي أَرَاكَ وَقَوْمَكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُّبِينٍ [ And when Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to his father, Azar : Do you take idols for gods? Surely I see you and your people in manifest error] (Al-Anaam - 74).
The literal meanings of this verse that comes to a reader's mind are : Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to his father whose name was Azar. But as per the rules of laconic usage, descriptive linguistics and rhetoric, this is a wrong understanding because it is mentioned that "Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to his father, Azar", which denotes different meanings.
Like, no one says, “My father, Husain, is coming". We only say "My father is coming".
If we talk of a relationship and a name at the same time, people will understand that there are more than one person associated with that relationship. If we have only one person associated with the relationship (like father), we will only say, “My father is coming".
Arabic word ( أبي ) is commonly used for (i) biological father, (ii) 'step father', and (iii) 'brother of father'. Like in Indian Sub Continent, many children call their father Papa. And they call, elder brother of their father, Abbu, Bade Papa, etc. Similarly, in English language, people use 'father' to denote different relationships; like 'father figure', 'father of nation', 'god father', 'grand father', etc.
If Azar was the biological father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام), it would have been enough to say, "He said to his father". But the Quranic verse emphasizes "Ibrahim (عليه السلام) said to his father, Azar". This shows that Azar was not biological father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام).
It is in Quran - وَمَا كَانَ اسْتِغْفَارُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لِأَبِيهِ إِلَّا عَن مَّوْعِدَةٍ وَعَدَهَا إِيَّاهُ فَلَمَّا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ أَنَّهُ عَدُوٌّ لِّلَّهِ تَبَرَّأَ مِنْهُ ۚ إِنَّ إِبْرَاهِيمَ لَأَوَّاهٌ حَلِيمٌ [ Ibrahim (عليه السلام) would not have asked forgiveness for his father but for a promise he made to him, and when it became clear to him that he was an enemy of Allah (سبحانہ و تعا لی), he renounced him. Ibrahim (عليه السلام)was tender hearted and forbearing.] (At-Tauba -114).
Read the above verse carefully; it says 'Ibrahim (عليه السلام) would not have asked forgiveness for his father but for a promise he made to him'.
Remember, we do not pray for our parents because we make a promise to them. We do it as mandatory and obligatory on us. We might make a promise to our relatives that we will do dua for them in a specific issue. Thus, the verse shows the relationship of Ibrahim (عليه السلام) with Azar, was not that of son and biological father, rather it was the relationship between two relatives. He asked for forgiveness for (his uncle) Azar because he promised him once. But when Ibrahim (عليه السلام) realized that he was an Idol worshiper and the enemy of Allah (سبحانہ و تعا لی), he renounced him.
It is in Hadith - Anas Ibn Malik (رضئ اللہ تعالی عنہ) narrates that one day Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) stood on the pulpit and informed (sahabah) the names of his ancestors:
The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) said: Ana, Mohammad Ibn Abdullah, bin Abdul Muttalib, bin Hashim, bin Abd Manaf, bin Qusa'i, bin Kilab, bin Murra, bin Ka'b, bin Lu'ayy, bin Ghalib, bin Fihr, bin Malik, bin an-Nadr, bin Kinanah, bin Khuzaimah, bin Mudrikah, bin Elias, bin Mudar, bin Nizar, bin Ma'ad, bin Adnan, bin Udad, bin Asha'b, bin Saleh, bin Salooq, bin Hameesa, bin Nabad, bin Khizaar, bin Ismail (عليه السلام), bin Ibrahim (عليه السلام), bin Tariq.
(Baihaqi, Hakim, Ahmed, Ibn Kathir in Bidaya wan Nihaya and Ibn Asakir also narrated this Hadith).
It is clear from the above Hadith that the father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام) was Tariq, a Momin; while his uncle Azar was an Idol worshiper.
It is in Quran - رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ [O our Lord! grant me protection and my parents and the believers on the day when the reckoning shall come to pass! ] (Ibrahim - 41).
In the above verse, Ibrahim (عليه السلام) is praying for protection for himself, his both parents (who were Momineen) and general believers on the Day of Judgment. This Quranic verse shows Azar, who was an Idol worshiper, was not the father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام).
Ibn Jarir al-Tabari in his Tafsir and History book has mentioned that - Azar was not the father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام). ( History of Tabari, Vol. 1, Page 119. and Tafsir-e-Tabari by Ibn Jarir al-Tabari, Vol. 7, page 158).
Ibn Kathir has written in al-Bidaya wan Nihaya - Ibrahim (عليه السلام) was the son of Tariq. When Tareq was 75 years old, Ibrahim (عليه السلام) was born to him. (al-Bidaya wan Nihaya, vol 1, page 139)
Hadhrat Mohammad Abdul Qadeer Siddiqui (رحمتہ اللہ علیہ) has written in his Tafseer-e-Siddiqui that Azar was the brother of the father of Ibrahim (عليه السلام). (Tafseer-e-Siddiqui)Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 075وَكَذَلِكَ نُرِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ مَلَكُوتَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلِيَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُوقِنِينَ [ Thus We showed to Ibrahim (عليه السلام) the visible and invisible world of the heavens and the earth, that he could be among those who have certainty of believe. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 076فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلُ رَأَى كَوْكَبًا قَالَ هَذَا رَبِّي فَلَمَّا أَفَلَ قَالَ لَا أُحِبُّ الْآَفِلِينَ [ So when the night became dark upon him he saw a star; he said (is) this my Lord (as the people portray it). Then when it set he said, 'I do not like the things that set.' ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 077فَلَمَّا رَأَى الْقَمَرَ بَازِغًا قَالَ هَذَا رَبِّي فَلَمَّا أَفَلَ قَالَ لَئِنْ لَمْ يَهْدِنِي رَبِّي لَأَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الضَّالِّينَ [ Then when he saw the moon shining, he said, (is) this my Lord (as the people portray it). Then when it set, he said, 'If my Lord had not guided me, I too would be one of these people who have gone astray. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 078فَلَمَّا رَأَى الشَّمْسَ بَازِغَةً قَالَ هَذَا رَبِّي هَذَا أَكْبَرُ فَلَمَّا أَفَلَتْ قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِمَّا تُشْرِكُونَ [ Then when he saw the sun shining brightly, he said, (is) this my Lord (as the people portray it). This is the biggest of them all!; then when it set he said, 'O' people! I do not have any relation with the whatever you ascribe as partners (to Him). ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 079إِنِّي وَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِيَ لِلَّذِي فَطَرَ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ حَنِيفًا وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ [ Indeed, I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of those who associate others with Allah. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 080وَحَاجَّهُ قَوْمُهُ قَالَ أَتُحَاجُّونِّي فِي اللَّهِ وَقَدْ هَدَانِ وَلَا أَخَافُ مَا تُشْرِكُونَ بِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ رَبِّي شَيْئًا وَسِعَ رَبِّي كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عِلْمًا أَفَلَا تَتَذَكَّرُونَ [ And his people argued with him. He said, 'Do you argue with me concerning Allah while He has guided me? And I fear not what you associate with Him. (And I will not be harmed) unless my Lord wills it to happen. My Lord encompasses all the things in knowledge; then will you not reflect? ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 081وَكَيْفَ أَخَافُ مَا أَشْرَكْتُمْ وَلَا تَخَافُونَ أَنَّكُمْ أَشْرَكْتُمْ بِاللَّهِ مَا لَمْ يُنَزِّلْ بِهِ عَلَيْكُمْ سُلْطَانًا فَأَيُّ الْفَرِيقَيْنِ أَحَقُّ بِالْأَمْنِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ [ And how should I fear what you associate while you do not fear that you have associated with Allah that for which He has not sent down to you any authority? So which of the two parties has more right to security, if you should know? ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 082الَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُوا إِيمَانَهُمْ بِظُلْمٍ أُولَئِكَ لَهُمُ الْأَمْنُ وَهُمْ مُهْتَدُونَ [ Those who believed and did not mix it with injustice (disbelief), the refuge is only for them, and only they are on guidance. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 083وَتِلْكَ حُجَّتُنَا آَتَيْنَاهَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَلَى قَوْمِهِ نَرْفَعُ دَرَجَاتٍ مَنْ نَشَاءُ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌ [ And this is Our argument, which We gave Ibrahim (عليه السلام) against his people; We raise to high ranks whomever We will; indeed your Lord is Wise, All Knowing. ]
Juz 7, Al-An'aam verse 084وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا وَنُوحًا هَدَيْنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُوسُفَ وَمُوسَى وَهَارُونَ وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ [ And We bestowed upon him Ishaq and Yaqub (عليهم السلام).
