 JUZ 8.3 WA LAU ANNANA (وَلَوْ أَنَّنَا)

سورة الأعراف

The Heights

Al-A'raaf | Sura # 7| 206 verses | Makkan

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate and Most Merciful

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 001
المص [ Alif Laam Meem Saad ]
'Alif-Laam-Meem-Saad' is known as ‘Solemn Verse' (Ayat-e-Muqatta'at - آیتِ مقطعات).
Fourteen Arabic alphabets have been used, in varied combinations,  in  14 ‘Solemn Verses' (Ayaat-e-Muqatta'at - آیاتِ مقطعات) in the form of initials  of  29 Chapters (سورة) of holy Quran.   Alif-Laam-Meem-Saad (المص)  is one of them.
Since Quran is 'Mubeen' (الْمُبِينِ);  its description is clear and manifest. The meanings of all the verses of Quran, including  'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) are surely known to its principle addressee, ie., Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).  It is also likely that Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) has informed the meanings of these Verses to some of his Sahabah and  Awliya Allah.
We believe  in whatever is meant by the 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم).
Since we have been commanded to read the Quran carefully and try to understand the significance of every verse of the Quran, we do ponder over these verses.  And when we think, by focusing our attention towards Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and His Apostle Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) for guidance,  it comes to our mind that the 'Solemn Verses' (آیاتِ مقطعات) are actually the 'Solemn Titles of Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) given by Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) throughout the Quran.  Our understanding is based on the fact that Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) has addressed Prophet Mohammad (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) in the Quran by specific names, like Muzzammil (مزمل - O' beloved who covers self  in a coverlet), Muddassir (مدثر  -  O' beloved, who covers self in a bed sheet).  With this understanding, it is most likely that  Prophet’s (صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم) other names / titles  have been mentioned in Quran  by denoting certain initials/alphabets.
Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 002
كِتَابٌ أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكَ فَلَا يَكُنْ فِي صَدْرِكَ حَرَجٌ مِنْهُ لِتُنْذِرَ بِهِ وَذِكْرَى لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ [ This Book has been sent down to you (O Prophet ﷺ).   (But in view of disbelievers' denial and plotting)  do not get upset about warning them through it. Also (keep on) reminding the believers. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 003
اتَّبِعُوا مَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ قَلِيلًا مَا تَذَكَّرُونَ [ O' mankind, follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord,  and do not follow any other beside Him. Yet little do you care to remember. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 004
وَكَمْ مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ أَهْلَكْنَاهَا فَجَاءَهَا بَأْسُنَا بَيَاتًا أَوْ هُمْ قَائِلُونَ [ And how many towns were destroyed when Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 005
فَمَا كَانَ دَعْوَاهُمْ إِذْ جَاءَهُمْ بَأْسُنَا إِلَّا أَنْ قَالُوا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ [ And when Our punishment overtook them they had nothing to say except crying out  'Indeed we have been unjust'. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 006
فَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ الَّذِينَ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَنَسْأَلَنَّ الْمُرْسَلِينَ [ (On the Day of Reckoning) We shall question the people to whom the rightful knowledge was conveyed and We will question the Apostles (who taught them the rightful knowledge.)  ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 007
فَلَنَقُصَّنَّ عَلَيْهِمْ بِعِلْمٍ وَمَا كُنَّا غَائِبِينَ  [ We shall recount (their deeds) to them as we are aware (of them).  (They should know that), We have never been away from them (and have witnessed all what they did. )]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 008
وَالْوَزْنُ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْحَقُّ فَمَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ [ And on that Day, the weighing will indeed be done; so those whose scales prove heavy  are the successful.]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 009
وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَئِكَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا بِآَيَاتِنَا يَظْلِمُونَ [ And those whose (good deeds) are lighter in the scale shall perish for violating Our signs. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 010
وَلَقَدْ مَكَّنَّاكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَايِشَ قَلِيلًا مَا تَشْكُرُونَ [ And We established you in the earth and in it, created for you the means of livelihood; (but) very few are grateful. ]
Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 011
وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنَاكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لِآَدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ لَمْ يَكُنْ مِنَ السَّاجِدِينَ [ Indeed, We have  created you, (O' Mankind), and given you a (Human) form. Then We said to the angels, 'Prostrate to Adam (عليه السلام)'; so they prostrated, except Satan. He was not of those who prostrated. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 012
قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِنْ نَارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِنْ طِينٍ [ Allah asked (Satan), 'What prevented you, that you did not prostrate when I commanded you? Answered Satan, 'I am better than him; You created me from fire whereas he is created from clay. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 013
قَالَ فَاهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَنْ تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا فَاخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الصَّاغِرِينَ [ Allah commanded, 'then go down from here. It does not befit you to stay here and be proud.  Exit, you are from the damned.  ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 014
قَالَ أَنْظِرْنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ [ He (Satan) said, 'Give me respite till the day (of Resurrection) when people will be resurrected.' ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 015
قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِينَ [ Allah said, 'You are given respite.' ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 016
قَالَ فَبِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ [ Satan said,  'Since You led me into error, I will surely lie in wait for them on Your Straight Path (to lure them away from it). ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 017
ثُمَّ لآتِيَنَّهُم مِّن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَن شَمَآئِلِهِمْ وَلاَ تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَاكِرِينَ [ Then I will come to them from before them and from behind them and on their right and on their left, and You will not find most of them grateful (to You).' ]
It is interesting to note that Satan forgot to say that he will come from above.  When Satan tries to lure people from the four directions, those who are on Sahih Iman pray Allah to save them from his insinuations by their folded hands.  Then comes Allah's (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) Mercy from above and he is saved from Satan's evil designs.
Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 018
قَالَ اخْرُجْ مِنْهَا مَذْءُومًا مَدْحُورًا لَمَنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنْكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ [ Allah commanded, 'Exit from here, (you) rejected outcast; indeed whoever among them follows you, I will fill Hell with you all.' ]
Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 019
وَيَا آَدَمُ اسْكُنْ أَنْتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الْجَنَّةَ فَكُلَا مِنْ حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ  [ And (Allah commanded) 'O Adam (عليه السلام), dwell, you and your wife, in Paradise and eat from wherever you want but do not approach this tree, lest you will be among the wrongdoers.' ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 020
فَوَسْوَسَ لَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ لِيُبْدِيَ لَهُمَا مَا وُورِيَ عَنْهُمَا مِنْ سَوْآَتِهِمَا وَقَالَ مَا نَهَاكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنْ هَذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ إِلَّا أَنْ تَكُونَا مَلَكَيْنِ أَوْ تَكُونَا مِنَ الْخَالِدِينَ  [ Then Satan created apprehensions in their hearts in order to disclose to them matters of their shame which were hidden from them, and said, 'Your Lord has forbidden you from this tree, for you may become angels or immortals.' ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 021
وَقَاسَمَهُمَا إِنِّي لَكُمَا لَمِنَ النَّاصِحِينَ  [ And he swore to them, 'Indeed I am a well-wisher for both of you.' ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 022
فَدَلَّاهُمَا بِغُرُورٍ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا الشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآَتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِنْ وَرَقِ الْجَنَّةِ وَنَادَاهُمَا رَبُّهُمَا أَلَمْ أَنْهَكُمَا عَنْ تِلْكُمَا الشَّجَرَةِ وَأَقُلْ لَكُمَا إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَكُمَا عَدُوٌّ مُبِينٌ  [ So he brought them down with deception; and when they tasted from that tree, their shame became manifest to them and they began covering themselves from the leaves of Paradise; and their Lord said to them, 'Did I not forbid you from that tree, and tell you that Satan is an open enemy to you? ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 023
قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنْفُسَنَا وَإِنْ لَمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ  [ They both submitted, 'Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves; so if You do not forgive us and have Mercy on us, surely, we will be among the losers.' ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 024
Some of you are  enemies of others, and there will be for you on the earth a habitation and provision for (an appointed) time. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 025
قَالَ فِيهَا تَحْيَوْنَ وَفِيهَا تَمُوتُونَ وَمِنْهَا تُخْرَجُونَ  [ Allah said, 'Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be raised (on the day of Resurrection). ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 026
يَا بَنِي آَدَمَ قَدْ أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَيْكُمْ لِبَاسًا يُوَارِي سَوْآَتِكُمْ وَرِيشًا وَلِبَاسُ التَّقْوَى ذَلِكَ خَيْرٌ ذَلِكَ مِنْ آَيَاتِ اللَّهِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَذَّكَّرُونَ   [ O' children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness is the best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember. ]
The clothing of righteousness is of two types, (i) physical - it is strictly as per the Sharia.  We should make sure that we should hide our body parts as per the commandments of Sharia and look a truthful follower of Islam.  (ii) Spiritual -  The best clothing is to remove the lustful inclinations of our Nafs and cloth it with the Zikr of Allah (عَزَّ وَجَلَّ) and transform it into piety.

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 027
يَا بَنِي آَدَمَ لَا يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ كَمَا أَخْرَجَ أَبَوَيْكُمْ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ يَنْزِعُ عَنْهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوْآَتِهِمَا إِنَّهُ يَرَاكُمْ هُوَ وَقَبِيلُهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا تَرَوْنَهُمْ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَا الشَّيَاطِينَ أَوْلِيَاءَ لِلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ   [ O' children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts.  Indeed, he and his tribe see you from where you do not see them.  Indeed, We have made the devils,  allies to those who do not believe. ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 028
وَإِذَا فَعَلُوا فَاحِشَةً قَالُوا وَجَدْنَا عَلَيْهَا آَبَاءَنَا وَاللَّهُ أَمَرَنَا بِهَا قُلْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَأْمُرُ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ أَتَقُولُونَ عَلَى اللَّهِ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ   [ And when they commit an immorality, they say, 'We found our fathers doing it, and Allah has ordered us to do it.' Say, 'Indeed, Allah does not order immorality. Do you say about Allah that which you do not know?' ]

Juz 8,  Al-A'raaf verse 029
قُلْ أَمَرَ رَبِّي بِالْقِسْطِ وَأَقِيمُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ عِنْدَ كُلِّ مَسْجِدٍ وَادْعُوهُ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ كَمَا بَدَأَكُمْ تَعُودُونَ   [ Say, (O' Prophetﷺ ), 'My Lord has ordered justice and that you set your heart (focused on Him) at every occasion of prayer in mosques and invoke Him, (and be) sincere to Him in religion and become the same as you were before.  The way He brought you into being, in the same manner will you return.
